Our story
Why a quilter built a retreat in the pines — and what she hopes you'll find when you get here.
Like many quilters, my retreat journey started with a friend.
Several years ago, my sweet friend Heidi invited me on my very first quilting retreat. We spent days sewing, laughing, sharing meals, and staying up far past our bedtimes. It felt like the world's best sleepover with my closest friends—and we got to quilt, too! I was hooked from the very first trip.
What started as a fun getaway quickly became a cherished tradition. Year after year, I made time to attend retreats with my quilting friends. While we certainly finished plenty of projects along the way, what I treasure most are the memories we created together. The conversations around the cutting table, the laughter that echoed late into the night, the encouragement shared over a difficult block, and the friendships that grew stronger with every retreat.
As the years passed, I began dreaming of creating a retreat space of my own—a place designed specifically for quilters to gather, create, and connect. Thankfully, my husband was immediately on board (he never turns down a good project!). Together, we spent months dreaming about what our perfect retreat would look like, from spacious sewing areas to cozy gathering spaces and every little detail in between.
When it came time to find a property, the house that would become Rim Country Quilt Retreat was actually the very first one we toured. Even though we looked at many others, none compared. It checked every box and instantly felt like the place where our dream could become reality.
Over the following year, we poured our hearts into transforming the home with comfort, functionality, and a touch of luxury in mind. As a quilter myself, I wanted every detail to support a wonderful retreat experience—from comfortable seating and generous workspaces to inviting places to relax and reconnect after a day of sewing.
My hope is that your time here becomes one of those treasured memories you'll talk about for years to come. Whether you're gathering with lifelong friends or making new ones, I hope you leave inspired, refreshed, and already planning your next retreat.

Rim Country Quilt Retreat sits in the cool pines of Payson, about ninety minutes up the hill from the Phoenix valley. The sewing room runs nearly 700 square feet with eight stations, comfortable Arrow chairs, two cutting stations, two ironing stations, and forty-four feet of design wall. The whole space is on the ground floor, steps from where you park, so loading in is easy.
Upstairs and down there's coffee waiting, comfortable beds made up with handmade quilts, and a porch where you just might see an elk wander past. Bring your fabric and your friends — I'll handle the rest.
